IKOU for HALU
Ikou is a portable chair that can be used at home or on the go, intended for infants who experience difficulty maintaining a sitting position on their own. We prioritized support, size, safety and weight to create a reliable companion. Halu and our team went through multiple iterations of different seat shapes to properly support a wide range of body types and conditions.
We teamed up with Haru’s founder Yuri-san in 2019 to design products better suited for her son who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She has since then secured funding and developed the chair. This project was made prior to the Strays Collective, produced by IDEO and designers from our current team. The chair has since won the Good Design Award in 2022.

We teamed up with Haru’s founder Yuri-san in 2019 to design products better suited for her son who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She has since then secured funding and developed the chair. This project was made prior to the Strays Collective, produced by IDEO and designers from our current team. The chair has since won the Good Design Award in 2022.
Children grow by doing: taking their first steps, learning to sit properly, putting on clothes, using a spoon. However, sometimes children with different physical abilities take longer to acquire these skills or experience them differently. Ikou makes the world outside the home more accessible for the kids and their families so they can experience more moments of growth and joy.
Halu and our team went through multiple iterations of different seat shapes to properly support a wide range of body types and conditions. For everyday use, we knew the chair had to weigh less than 4kg and fit into a stroller.

We teamed up with Yuri-san in 2019 to design products better suited for her son Haru who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She has since then founded her company Halu and secured funding for the product. The chair is available since March 2022. Disney World, MLB and JFA sports leagues are interested in making their events more accessible with Ikou. This project was developed prior to the Strays Collective, produced by IDEO and designers from our current team.
