SEER / SHISEIDO

Seer is a data-driven skincare system that correlates information from the body, skin and environment to give people a deeper understanding of their health and wellbeing. The countertop device combines inside and outside scans into one form factor and creates a weekly ritual.

The inhaler catches tiny saliva probes from breath condensation. It's a rich source for data such as hormones, pH and blood sugar levels. The scanner on the bottom of the device takes readings on predetermined parts of the body.

It is easy to rinse and clean the device which is important for hygiene and frequent use. The mouthpiece is inspired by wind instruments and the form factor is comfortable for oral use, which makes it recognisable among competitive scanning devices.

Our team had the chance to interview and repeatedly test ideas with 12 people to understand their concerns and hopes regarding wellbeing and skincare.

Shiseido wants to go beyond surface level skincare and offer by 2030 a portfolio of wellbeing technologies. Seer serves as a northstar for the new product category and focuses R&D efforts on a specific use case and helps to identify the right partners once the technology is available. This project was developed prior to the Strays Collective, produced by IDEO and designers from our current team.
